this is without a doubt one of the nicest gt40 replicas i’ve ever seen. curious if it’s ever taken to local shows like Calabasas Sundays or anything like that to see it up close. Also, how does the price (all said & done) compare to a new Ford GT?… b/c the style of the originals is far superior in my opinion. great job!
William – The car still has some work to do before I can get it out on the road, I’m a bit nervous on how it will do on the street, as the motor is really going to be a tough one to get out anywhere but the track, but then again WTF . The pricing is really a matter of what you want done, you can get into these cars at a few levels of completion and just depends on what you’re willing to do as well as supply. The RCR folks give you a good amount of options for powertrain which is the second big expense, paint and body being the third. But I’m into this car with 2 spare race prepped 930 Gear boxes, spare set of rims, and lets say a good motor for less then a used Ford GT by a bunch. And yes, the original is what it is all about, at one point I had the option to get on the list and decided it really wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted the old school brutal GT40
A lot of the car was done by the folks at RCR. Since I was an early purchaser of the car I had them do the paint and body. The also wanted to show the car so the did some nice extra things for me. I think if you hit up Fran at RCR he can get you a ton of people that have done public builds on his cars, many you can see at http://www.gt40s.com and if you have not yet been up to that site worth a couple of hours looking at many of the builds. Fran is also a good guy if you give him a call he will get you in the right direction, some of the stuff in my car is odd as I’m somewhat particular in how I wanted the car, which is a Race car, NO A/C, etc. Others have a totally different build.
We did have a garage segment but lost the video, we will be re-doing that as soon as we get some time.
Wow. I’ve had this page loaded for about an hour just looking at the pictures over and over again. One day I would love to build one of these (and a ’65 Daytona Coupe) and you’ve captured everything about these cars that made them so special. Nice work! I especially dig the clean instrument panel & toggle switches with Dymo labels. Perfectly executed!

This car just seems to capture more of what I think a GT40 should look like. I think it is the rear tires. That is what tire should look like on these cars. Checked out the gt40s.com site looking for your build and could not find it. Any chance you could post a link or send me one via email? Who makes those rear wheels? Those are what I want if/when I build one.

Those seats are great, NOS or reproductions or custom? I have been thinking about doing them in an old BMW i am restoring… a bit unconventional but you look at Foose’s stuff and it only inspires classic upgrades.
They were made by Race Car Replica’s, and pretty common for the GT40′s, stainless grommets (some are brass) in the leather. The seat frames are really simple aluminum backing.
