Ganz’s ‘The Ripper’
“The Ripper” started out life as a 1965 Mustang Fastback but it later became ‘Frankensteined’ and done with a modern Shelby R Model treatment. The original intent was to just create a nice GT350 clone but I later decided that I disliked Shelby (The Man) so much I would not go that route. So I did my own thing…

So why the hatred for Carroll Shelby? Not disagreeing, just curious.
I am a fan of what Shelby did with racing, just not much of a fan for all the crap that he has pulled later on in his career. I think mostly is that he really seems like a money grubbing jerk (IMO). Ask Pete Brock and others
But really just comes across as a Negative to me with respects to the Automotive world. When all said and done the dedicated people that worked for him like John Morton, Ken Miles, Pete Brock (and a host of other greats) were the muscle that got it done. I’m not discounting the man just the behavior. Do a search for Caroll Shelby and Lawsuits on Google its interesting. When all said and done he is a taker more then a giver. But hey that is how it is sometimes!
Agreed!
Oops. You’ve used Shelby’s name too many times. How much does it cost per drop of Shelby’s name?
Seems like you now owe him a dime too! Be careful you want to say it but you shouldn’t!
Sandy
Damn. Great pics. I’m tempted to strip my ’65 Fastback (family heirloom of sorts) down and go racing…
Awesome ride- and probably turns a whole lot faster lap times (and is a lot more fun) than a period-correct R-model clone.
You’re right, there were so many legendary names that were responsible for Shelby’s racing success in the 60s. Another one that I thought I’d throw out was Phil Remington.
Love that 289 FIA Cobra (but I’m a bit biased). Any more info on that car?
Russ – We are on the same page with old Shel’. I have a 427 Replica Cobra and I didn’t really care much for it except I could make a light fast car. Learning more and only finding out about the 289 FIA I would have done that hands down before a 427. It’s also one of the Weez’s favorite cars. One other nice thing is that every Tom, Dick and Harry has a 427 Cobra Kit, much few 289 FIA’s around and that is also a good thing. Hope you got Adam’s shot out the other day as well. Adam and the Weez really dug the cars!
Nice car. Want lap times do you get out of it at WSIR (big track). Look up Griggs Racing for some real re-engineering of a Mustang suspension.
Only had a transponder on it once at the big track and I ran 1:42, guys in Spec Miata’s with one of the better drivers was running 1:35′s as I recall.
Which for the day of cars was pretty good for me, but not good at all concidering what it could do with a good driver. The car is pretty well setup, but not tuned at all. I think about all I’m going to do is add a watts link which I have and a bit of suspension set up and be done. I do know about Griggs very good stuff, somewhat expensive and your car becomes a Griggstang after many of the mods he does and what fun would it be having a car that handles well
Hey sandy, do you still use the Flowbee?
I think you should let Donny borrow it.
(Cobra/garage picture, up on the shelf)
Yes, I still have the Flowbee. It was a gift many years ago and yes I did get ONE haircut with it. Donny needs a Super-FlowBee to clean his hair up. Watch for the his cut real soon…
