Toyota Grand Prix

Adam’s in the Celebrity Grand Prix

Back in 2003 Adam was asked to ‘participate’ in the Toyota Grand Prix Celebrity race in Long Beach, California. After some grueling training at Willow Springs International Raceway the Celebs hit the streets of Long Beach.

Below is a blurb from the Toyota Grand Prix Site -

“… celebrity drivers included Josh Brolin (Senator ‘Bill Sterling’ on “Mr. Sterling”), actress & model Angie Everhart, Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin (the second man to walk on the moon), Olympic Skiing Champion Picabo Street, Country Music artist Tommy Shane Steiner, Peter Reckell (‘Bo Brady’ on “Days of Our Lives” , who won this year’s race), Adam Carolla (co-host of “The Man Show” and the radio show “Loveline”), Jesse James (host of Discovery Channel’s “Monster Garage”, who won the race), Steve Hartman (sportscaster for KCBS-TV) and Tony Potts (reporter for “Access Hollywood”). Josh Brolin’s girlfriend, actress Diane Lane, was also there, and planted a kiss on Josh after the race.”

Wow, Adam drove that shit like a maniac.

And unless i’m mistaken, it really seems like he hit that other car, when we was passing him and went slightly up on the curb.

Then, waves from ahead, and yells out the window as he passes by them again (as they’re stopped in the same place where he tapped them)

    I can’t be sure tho….Either way….
Great video Carolla, keep em coming! I wanna see more stuff like this!! And i’m not even close to a gearhead….just a Carolla fan!!

    • CarCast says:

Yep, Ace stuffed that dude. The more fun part of the story was how many cars did Buzz Aldrin destroy in practice …

Hey just wanted to tell you guys what an amazing job you guys are doing, I really think the Adam Carolla Podcast and the Carcast are going to be the new media form. I am not a gear head but I am such a fan of Adam’s that I love to listen to the carcast. Also Adam w/ the podcast is so much better then the Adam on Radio. It is like he can really be himself. I can’t tell you how much I really enjoy the podcasts and really feel like you guys have such an amazing quality and the long form interviews that Adam does with his guest is awesome, so many time you never hear the whole story abot someone that you like and everything is cut into 3 1/2 MIN clips on the radio and you never really connect with the quest. So Thank YOU. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!
      KEEP IT THE GOOD WORK.

      NOW “GET IT ON!!!!!!!!!
      :)

I race shifter karts and that dude in front of Ace was braking way pass the a pix, he should of let the Ace man pass long before Ace had to teach him a lesson!

    This video is amazing.
Carolla, you should take the car cast on the road and drive the Nurburgring. I’ll be there in September driving and Audi TT.
    Lovin’ the CarCast.
    Love you AceMan.

  3. JDSTEW says:

Steiner should have been in charge of checking air pressure or something.

Great driving there Aceman! I’ve been listening to and following you for nearly 10 years now and have been hearing you as a car enthusiast and a gearhead but this is the first time I’ve actually seen you “walk the walk.” It didn’t disappoint! I drive an M3 and I think I drive pretty well but nothing even close to good enough to be in a grand prix.

Thank you very much for the podcast and that alone is more than enough entertainment for real fans like me. But now, you do the CarCast? I am overwhelmed! Congratulations and more power to you and the crew!

Fun video. OK, we got’s to know…..

Who did you pass and what happened when you saw them later?

  7. Gamera291 says:

Great video and some pretty great driving. But tell me… What place did Adam come in?

  8. Adam you give that guy in front of you far too much credit as a driver when I hear you talk about the race. He sucks! You could have passed him at almost every single turn and the fact that you waited untill the very last lap to finally shove his slow ass out of the way means you’re a better man than I am because I would not have had the patience to let him hold me back for the whole race. Great video though, it got my adrenaline going.

  9. Mark says:

    I liked that video also…
but is there a way to repost it
    without the 70′s music?

    • CarCast says:

Can’t remove the music, it was video from Toyota that they mixed, or we would. It’s a common problem with people that do in car work. IMO all you need is engine sound.

See this is why I refuse to do any racing, any sniff of a higher position and I’d end up going head first into a wall at 120 or whatever, it takes a hell of a lot of discipline of which I don’t have a lot in all honesty. It does show what skill and what restraint it takes to race though.

Rubb’n is racing…I give love taps all the time to slugs that are in my way…just say’n.

  12. Scot Mullen says:

Well done Ace man. I love your late apex. And I love that you make the car in front of you mirror drive. That looks like so much fun!!
Yes, I can ride a unicycle, and yes I have one Championship for “Late Model Stock” at my local track twenty years ago.
If anyone says “once you ride a unicycle you never forget” That is wrong. You must relearn.
I have a passion for the same things you do Adam. But if I ever had a radio show I would Struggle for, what do you call them…..3 missisippy….words.
    Hugs.

Just listening to the Tanner Foust episode this morning. I guess I was expecting to see you battling it out with Keanu Reeves. Did Toyota cut out any nice hand gestures from the video?

Nice show, keep it up. Keep up the good work!

  14. Richard Lund says:

    Hey Adam,
Great Vid. Needs Two thing. We need a speedometer reading in the lower right. And we need a rear cam to see stuff like after you passed that asshole, what was he trying to do to you and who was behind you when you were trying to pass the other guy. Love the show. I don’t listen to replays of Howard. I just pick up your show as soon as he pulls his vacation crap. Also a great guest for you to have on would be Steve Dahl. He was a DJ in Chicago dateing way back to the 70′s.
And he was the one Howard was stealing bits from. In fact Howard just copied his show. They were both in Detroit at the same time. Only Steve was number one and Howard wanted to be number one. Anyway. When are you coming back to Chicago? , Rich
