Show Summary
At the top of the show, Adam talks to Demetri about unfunny cartoons, and explains what it really means to be a ‘humorist.’ Tbe guys also talk about performance artists, and talk about how Demetri is about to play a show where Adam just finished performing. Demetri talks about aggressive homeless people, and Adam talks about how grateful he is to not have to do manual labor for a living anymore.
Demetri then asks Adam about his history with Jimmy Kimmel and how long they’ve known each other. The guys talk about seeing celebrities in LA coffee shops, and Adam tells a story about Norm MacDonald and his best friend. Later, Adam discusses the film Grown Ups, and his fascination with rich people who do shitty work.
Toward the end of the show, the guys break down the different types of comedians, and Demetri suggests that he has an edge, even if his stage show isn’t about banging hookers. Adam goes on a rant about annoying cell phone rings, and talks to Demetri about supplying drawings and book plates for people who pre-order their books. The show wraps with Adam complaining about Bob Dylan’s recent Grammy performance.

gotta get Norm on ACS
But amazon.com says Demetri’s book is out now?
Looking forward to this one.
Seattle fucking sucks. Cold as fuck, no sun, expensive, hipsters everywhere, pretentious, crazy lefties, and most of all BORING.
So of course when a C list celebrity does some standup its a fucking huge deal.
Seattle is expensive for the same reason that Paris is expensive: people want to live here.
It’s not “boring,” it’s a city with an indoor culture. People read. People make music. People push things forward. True – not a lot of shirtless bros rollerblading by the beach, people yelling insults from their cars, and all that good L.A. stuff.
But yeah, a lot of lefties.
weel, get it on bitches
opps. well
I LOVE DM … his standup kicks tail!!
[*sigh*] His “Important Things” show was underappriciated, I thought … maybe too sophisticated for your typical Comedy Central audience.
… He was some tits and explosions from bein’ today’s Jersey Shore.
Whoa, Demetri looks disturbingly like Alison.
I don’t see tons of people moving into seattle. People love it so much it has the highest suicide rate in the country. Kurt Cobain loved it so much he blew his brains out.
Wanna see some funny cartoons? Check out The Far Side.
I saw the show at the Egytian Room. “Echoey” or not, Adam was hillarious. Glad I saw him this time, because it does not sound like he will be coming back anytime soon. Anyhow all the Adam fans at the show say thanks for coming.
No shirtless bros… I’m out.
I heart Demetri
Cobain blew his brains out because Courtney Love’s gash smelled like the suffering of The Holocaust.
Deimetri seems like a cool guy. Good show.
What is with the one-on-one’s this week? I’ve said it before, I still like them, but it’s a little off weird to have these, they recorded this one last night.
Seattle is a great town. It may have drawbacks, like any place does, but I’ve been to both, and it is WAY better than Los Angeles.
Get it the fuck on bitches!
I’d like it if Demetri came back on this show soon.
Yeah, Seattle sucks so bad – that is why 7/10 people you meet are NOT natives.
WOW!!!! At first I laughed at your comment… then I scrolled up and looked at the picture. You are right! Same round, slavic face. Craziness.
Love the dusting of one on ones. Not weird at all.
Awesome, Demetri is hilarious. I already ordered by book thru adamcarolla.com, can’t wait
Actually, Portland has the highest suicide rate per city in the US. Seattle didn’t rate in the top 10 (per CDC website)
>>>”People read. People make music. People push things forward. “>>>
Sorry Gv, you’re not helping make Seattle sound exciting.
omfg can we go one episode without hearing the phrase, “swinging a hammer?”
Remember that one time the kid was pushing on the pull door at the School for the Gifted…that was awesome.
Did you ever see the Terminator?
Probably not. And the sooner you come to terms with that the better off you’ll be.
I get it. Accept the things you cannot change…
hahahahah…your right
Awesome we finally get to hear how Adam met Jimmy Kimmel, it should be interesting. Wait, what? Adam was a carpenter before. There’s no way that’s true, I’m sure he would have mentioned it before.
In this case, the swinging a hammer comment was appropriate. If the guest doesn’t know and it’s germane to the topic, it’s ok. Besides, there are always newcomers to the show who might not be aware. Ace does get repetitive for sure, but some amount of recycling is necessary.
He was asked a direct question about meeting Kimmel.
Sweet!
i once swung a hammer because i couldn’t find my whiffle ball bat. it completely shattered the whiffle ball. i found a tennis ball and it worked much better. just a tip in case anyone ever tries this.
love Demetri Martin by the way. can’t wait to hear Adam talk over him for an hour.
why is this guy on the whole show but when they get a GOOD guest they come on the last 30 mins
this dude is a TOOL NO TALENT LITTLE HACK WHY IS HE ON HERE
HEY Demetri
YOU SUCK
Do you listen to music you hate, too?
After reading the comments over the last few days, the amount of haters that get on here just to bitch and moan about a free podcast is truly pathetic. You people have way too much time on your hands. Sandy, I think it’s time to set up your message board like Deadspin’s, where you must be approved as a commenter before your comments will be posted. I enjoy reading the constructive and insightful comments on here (positive and negative), but I don’t like wading through all the bullshit comments from retards to find them.
who do you think you are? the comments police?!!! LOL
i have a drinking game with friends. you take a shot every time adam says “jimmy”.
if adam brings up the story of how he met jimmy we take 2 shots.
on average we imbibe 12 shots a week!
comment police would be nice.
Wow man, that was a really good podcast.
Adam’s 1 on 1 podcast have been great but WTF! Where are BB and Alison? I need 90 min shows.
Adam create a ringtone and sell it for a buck like Bill Burr did. “GET IT ONN!”
Assistant Matt? What happened to Assistant Jay!?
Really good show. I dig Demetri.
Great guest. Get more like this or heck, just have him back frequently. He’s great.
I’m with Adam about rich comedians doing s****y work. I can’t believe Sandler was in Funny People totally playing himself and calling himself out on his career and then doing Grown-ups. If you look at his IMDB page, it looks like he’s 3-4 s****y movies coming up. Somebody needs to explain the concept of F’ you money to him.
Good episode. Two good, sharp comic brains bouncing jokes around. I laughed pretty hard at the Dylan stuff. “Man. Who’s that surly jew out in the barn?”
“Cobain blew his brains out because Courtney Love’s gash smelled like the suffering of The Holocaust.”
Good one. (The joke, not the gash. Sounds nas-T!)
I’ve been to Seattle. Totally dug it. I say this as a Denver-ite, fwiw.
dear carolla podcasts,
do you want me to transcribe these one on one interviews? i think they are more valuable than regular shows, one on one talks with important figures, it’s journalism! let me type ‘em up you can turn them into a carolla interviews book one day. peace
Doug Benson mentioned on Eardrop that they were going to be on DLM with Bill Burr.
Always wondered the same thing. Do these non-stop complainers sit around listening to bands they hate and then go to their fan-site message boards to tell the artists how they should be making records more to their liking. Think I’ll go to Lady GaGa’s site and try that right now.
When Dememtri asked him how long he knew Kimmel I figured Adam would say, “Sorry, can’t talk about that. There’s about 9 or 10 tools on my message board that don’t care for me talking about my good friends or my work history. Next question?”
I was shocked when he actually engaged his guest and delivered and entertaining podcast instead. Go figure.
Demetri is a comedian?
Demetri was great. These two seem like very different people at first, but they had a good rapport and had similar funny view points. Not to mention another 15 minutes on the phone ring tone bit, that was classic stuff.
Adam, I hate to break it to you, but Seattle blows. I have lived in the Emerald City forever, and it sucks. Everyone is way too into fleece/recycling/being annoying, and it pisses rain 10 months out of the year. Not to mention the horrible traffic, and that all of the men are techie geeks. Girls don’t want to talk HTML on a date (at least this one doesn’t).
However, as far as theatres go, The Moore is so cool. Definitely one of my favorite venues to see shows. And, being a teenager in the Seattle Music scene of the 90s was surreal. Anyone remember Drop In The Park in ’94? That kind of stuff just doesn’t happen anymore.
I have been keeping a count, 54 consecutive podcasts with a mention. Almost Cal Ripken-esque. Get it on.
Better drinking game:
Take a shot every time Adam says “Swinging a Hammer”, “Ass-crack and Back-sack”, or “John Hiatt”.
Git R done!….oh…I mean get it on!
Here are some good comic strips, if Peanuts or Ziggy isn’t quite doing it for you:

http://www.pbfcomics.com/
http://www.threewordphrase.com/
Demetri is a hipster hack, horrible guest
show sucks without Allison and Bald Bryan
I have a better drinking game.
I read the message board and every time I read a whiney, complaining comment I drink a glass of water. I don’t need booze to get a buzz when I have the mind numbing diatribes from all you douche nozzles to make my brain shrink.
yay dmitri! heh love that opening. “hey”
whoops i totally spelled his name wrong
I’m shoked at how similar Dimitri and Jesse Ventura are, with similar political angles, conspiricy views and sense of humor
John Hiatt is fucking great.
Agree to disagree. His comedy special is piss pants funny.
Nice podcast, love the long interviews. Can’t wait for you to get back the legendary James Nguyen, I think he’s filming the sequel to Birdemic right now.
Heard Bill Simmons’ interview with Norm MacDonald this morning. MacDonald sounded like Simmons was conducting the interview from Norm’s neighbor’s wife’s bed.
Demitri Martin sorta looks like Alison Rosen.
Adam and Demetri were a great combo! I do miss Allison though…
I really liked Demitri. Have him on any time!
These one on one interviews suck you want the podcast to rule and be number one which I hope it is don’t half ass it put on the show with alison and bald b these one on ones blow won’t be downloading these just fast forward as one is prone to do
Better drinking game is, take a drink when Adam says either “essentially,” or “it’s weird.”
Compelling guest. Smart, funny. Bring him back.
Good thing Adam doesn’t read these or his head would explode. Half the people praise the one-on-one shows and they others hate them. Nothing makes you F-tards happy. Pissy bunch of cry babys. Waaaaaah!
I miss Alison.
eat dick
Good episode.
I liked Demetri. I have been wondering why Allison and Bryan have been absent so often recently. Can Donny or someone tell us?
Damn, good one.
You guys are annoying with all the complaints; it was a good podcast.
are you guys really bitching about asscrack and backsack? i crack up every time
love some demetri get it on!!
@Boring
Having only a third grade education I used to write, agree and jump on the “BB & Alison Podcasts are better band wagon” but last week someone much smarter than you and I pointed out the simple logistics of when Adam is on the road he pre-records one on ones so that we all get some sort of entertainment… isn’t that nice of Adam to do for us?… just saying
@Dan Band
Maybe these are all the Ex Stern Fan Network people who have been banned from that site… meanwhile everything I send gets put on “Awaiting Moderation” must be key words like DOT’s WMD’s, Terrorists, Global Thermo Nuclear War… shit, now I’ve got the NSA to clear too… just saying
Turn off your rington. Jim Rome has never had his phone on anything other than vibrate. Me neither. The ‘ringtone’ is an attention-getting clown identifier.
Another show with no BB or Alison, I’m getting worried. Alison is my new BFF, & BB is my 3rd favorite person with a tumor.
wow you take life lessons from jim rome the bigest douchnozzel on earth maybe you should shut the hell up and go live in a cave
Adam: A lot of phones have a ring once option, just like what you want.
The reason they keep ringing is for people who forget which coat it’s in and need the audio cue to track the thing down.
And JayCeezy is right. Custom ringtones are fucking stupid, narcissistic, and annoying. Just use a ring.
Excellent stuff Aceman. It’s great to hear the show without the female interference. You should do without her more often. Adam Carolla is the last man who needs a side-kick. He’s got plenty to say.
Why the shorter shows with no staff?
Asscrack and Backsack! Never heard that!
Does Adam understand that Bob Dylan has written ten million songs? Him complaining about Dylan’s song writing is about as cool as me complaining about Asscrack and Backsack.
Didn’t listen to the show yet, but you know what pisses me off? This “Crab Fishing is the most dangerous job in the world” bullshit. Meanwhile, Japanese nuclear reactor technicians are battling and averting a meltdown.
I think Adam has talked about this — if you make the sample size small enough, then you can paint yourself “special” in some aspect. Crab fishermen are a pretty small group, but is their job more dangerous than being a police officer in Detroit. Or dealing drugs? (That’s a job, too.) Or more dangerous than a private contractor in Iraq? Or soldiers? (They get paid.)
That’s the end of my irrele-rant.
You are wrong.
You are wrong
Norm’s episode on Fitzsimmon’s podcast from a few months ago is one of the funniest things I have ever heard.
I’m sick of people bitching about the one-on-one interviews on here. I personally like both formats, but if you don’t have the attention span or mental capability to listen to a conversation without sound effects and prepackaged segments then just don’t listen to these and shut the fuck up about it.
A lot of the time I don’t want to talk either, Demetri. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Silence is golden.
@Nate,
Love Simmons and MacDonald but Norm wasn’t on his game in that podcast IMO.
MacDonald had real funny energy (like, zero) on both the Bill Simmons and the Greg Fitzsimmons podcasts. He kind of came out of it on Simmons’ but it was like he was not wanting to be there. It was weird.
OG, I noticed that too. MacDonald was out of it. Like half asleep. And he seemed to expect every dumb thing he said to be taken as clever, super dry wit. Simmons helped him out with the chuckles, but man it was not a fun listen.
Drugs? Nah! Not in LA, right?
Ace,
Your fellow unicyclists are under attack:
http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/381643/april-13-2011/the-enemy-within—unicyclists
I missed BB and AR, but this was a good podcast. Demetri was assertive enough to not be a puss, but certainly not a blowhard.
I’ve always been a fan of Demetri but after hearing you two banter I like him all the more.
He’s more down to earth and less the hipster I thought he was. Good stuff Ace man.
Even a humming bird’s beak full of pilfering Adam’s phraseology throws me into a rage.
Dylan sucks. But Tangled up and Blue was pretty good.
~Satan
There are still people that don’t understand the one on one vs group shows? How long does it take before you numb nuts figure this shit out?
He certainly is.
Good day.
Who is coughing/sneezing in the background? Ace?
Demetris is so cute! I think Adam should set him up with Allison, seems they would be good together.
Good podcast, Demetri seems like a nice and funny guy. They spoke of the book plates, I wonder if I’m the only person who never received mine yet…hmmmm.
Why does Carolla have guests at all if he can’t control himself and simply shut the fuck up to let guests get a word in?
Note to Carolla: your show is usually horrible when you talk too much because you’re very repetitive and not nearly as interesting as you think. Your fans are not your personal therapists, don’t make us listen to all the bs that comes into your mind. Pay somebody for that, millionaire.
geez… just make a ringtone. in fact, i made one for adam but i cant find an email address to send it to.
Compelling entertainment about ringtones, Carolla. And bitching about doing stand up was also pure gold. You should just return to “swinging a hammer” to avoid these big problems, poor thing.
Don’t listen then, you fucking dipshit.
“Demetris is so cute! I think Adam should set him up with Allison, seems they would be good together.”
I’m sure he has a girlfriend, idiot.
